This is Phyl’s quilt and she used Sierra Trails fabrics to make the Crimson Christmas quilt from Fons and Porters Easy Quilts Winter 2011. Sierra Trials has the images of dancing Kokopelli's on it. I didn’t know what a Kokopelli was until Tuesday when I returned the quilt to her at our guild meeting and another member Bev was wearing a Kokopelli necklace! What are the odds of that! Well both ladies spend time in Arizona in the winter so there is the connection as Phyl bought her fabrics at the 3 Dudes Quilting in Arizona. Here’s a close up of the fabric so you can see what a Kokopelli is too!
I used the panto Happy Times, a brown Lava thread and Quilter’s Dream Blend batting.
When I was taking these pictures on Monday it was –34’c and I thought why don’t I wander around in knee deep snow and look for a better place to take a picture of Phyl’s quilt. After trudging around in the yard for a few minutes and filling up my boots with snow I finally realizing that this was not the best idea. I made my way to the ice rink, quickly got a few good shots and ran back to the house. My hands were so cold they felt like they were burning and yes I was wearing mitts but not my ‘good’ mitts! I also felt like a little kid dumping all the snow out of my boots at the back door and taking a broom to my pants to get all the snow off!! You would think I might learn from this but I’m sure I will do it again! :)

Such an eye catching quilt - that color combination is a great one! We are heading into our coldest weekend so far with one night predicted at -32, still not much snow though. Perfect quilting weather ;-)

Morning Kathy! I was thinking about you earlier this morning, wondering how cold it is there. Beautiful quilt and photos, is that with your new camera? So crisp and clear. It's -34C here today with the windchill. I turned the frosty garage doorknob and my fingers temporarily stuck to the knob! Should have had my mittens on! LOL! But the sun is shining, the sky is a beautiful blue -- good day for stitchin'!

That is the nicest quilt I have seen in a long time. I love the color combination. Just might have to "steal" this idea for a quilt for my mom who loves the Kokopelli theme. Great job of putting the quilt together and og quilting it. I am in Minnesota and we are about 9 degrees right now but headed for a cold snap this weekend. Good time to cuddle up with a quilt.
Love your photos! I would be afraid to put a quilt on the ground. With my luck, it would get dirty or something. How do you keep them so clean? Looks too cold for me though:)

The quilting really gives a nice finish to this quilt. Just curious, how thick is the ice by now?
Well, I think it was well worth the cold and snow because that shot (phyl46) of the quilt on the ice sings! It looks like it's floating.
I have been blessed to see this quilt in person. It is absolutly stunning.
Great to see the ice looking nice and clear. In Wisconsin we're still suffering from a too warm a start to the winter so our ice is not so photogenic. Thanks for taking the time to get that photo.

Forget the ice - that is one beautiful beyond PERFECT quilt. I am a man who quilt and this is one to envy for sure.
